Product Description
On presentation day I will be using a powerpoint presentation and a visual rough draft copy of an unfinished novel to help the judges better understand my internship. My powerpoint will contain all information that I learned from Penguin Random House and explain what I did during my internship. The unfinished novel copy is a typed and printed novel that has not yet been bound with the cover yet. This will be a representation of how a novel looks while in the process of being printed.

A rough draft copy of a book
I received the copy of the unfinished novel during my first day of the internship from my mentor. Because I have a google email account, I was able to access Google Slides to create my powerpoint. The photographs I took during my internship were taken on my Apple iPhone. I took notes using a small notebook that my mentor gave me.

Learning Stretch
Throughout my time spent interviewing with other employees and job shadowing my mentor, I took many notes describing all responsibilities the people of Penguin Random House have. Before my internship, I had very little knowledge of the publishing industry. However, I gained an exceptional amount of unknown knowledge during my time spent interning for Lisa Gonzalez. I discovered every aspect needed to publish a novel, including methods for marketing, exterior and interior design, publicity, managing, and copy/digital editing. I obtained this knowledge through meetings with eight of Lisa’s coworkers who provided insightful knowledge of their responsibilities and how they perform their job. I frequently asked questions and repeatedly took note of any interesting details. I also spent much time overviewing Lisa work on her computer communicating with retailers, customers, and other editors. I observed her overviewing a novel on an ereader to check if the formatting was correct and was pleasurable to read. The most interesting thing I learned when I was at Penguin Random House was how much the technological world has changed the publishing industry. Digital publishing has drastically impacted the current world of reading and I was shocked to see how important its influence can be. I am very fortunate to have been given this opportunity to learn so much I had not known before about the literature world. After this internship, I now have a great understanding of what my future career choices will be.
